second life

last week we had a presenter on second life in the classroom but also expanded on virtual worlds. however cool these innovations are it was disappointing to find out that you are unable to use in the primary classroom due to laws. it was an interesting presentation however as he has his own island that we got to explore, well he explored and we just got to watch. He did point out this fact that the learning is more enriching if we got to explore his island himself, which he does in other classes. He managed to create a whole drama class on his island, which instead of just reading a story, your submersed into the world where your actions and experiences are "real".
Because he was very passionate the presentation was very good. When there is a second life readily accessibly for primary school it might be worthwhile to check it out.

GAMEMAKER

this week was the innovation GAMEMAKER. A system designed to simplify the process of making a game. It was easier then what i thought it would be. Even though we had some trouble the idea of making a game is a daunting thought. I think the best bit of the presentation was the link to the end where they gave us information on how kids can go on a website that is designed to give them opportunities to pursue careers in game making.

We made a game called chase the clown however ours turned out to be chase the ghost. After a few pointers it was really easy to follow and we successfully made a "coffee break" game you could play for a solid 5 minutes. Fun all round.
